musicIO: Audio and MIDI over USB App Reviews

50 add

So simple to use ... Excellent

This is a very needed and easy to use app. I was able to connect both Logic and iPad apps in a minute ... No midi technical background required !

VST/AU??

Only works with VST and AU. My sequencer doesn’t support these (Reason)… I’m stuck.

A dream come true, almost.

The App looks promising. Latency is alright on 5s, Macbook Pro 2014 and Ableton. Lets see where the devs are heading, but for now its alraedy useful. Streaming from iOS to OS X would make it complete. Great job so far!

must have app

Highly recommended! Midi and audio stream from ios to mac osx and backward. Now i can use any effect app on my iPad and as source any sound from my Ableton DAW. Great!!

Seems to work great but documentation….

Seems to work great but documentation is a disaster, in particular for the Mac Music IO server, e.g. FAQ page "Routing MIDI to Logic on the Mac with Music IO”. Please explain in much more detail how this IAC Driver works.

great...

Spent 9euros, now they dropped Windows-Support.

Great Idea

What a brilliant idea to have musicIO work as a plug-in. Especially not having to deal with an aggregate device. Looking forward to audio in from the computer to the iPad. W.

Works as advertised.

I purchased this app as a way to connect my iPad to my Mac-based DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and use Korgs iM1 app, among others. Set-up was easy and connection immediate once I downloaded the server application to my Mac from the developers website and launched it. It has solved the problem of finding a hardware solution. Highly recommended.

must have!

Along with audiobus, this app is a definitive must have either using windows or mac. definitely save u the hassle of buying an audiocard just to record on the computer. Also this stays in the digital domain and the latency is really good. highly recommanded.

Great App, So-So Support

App is great once you figure out how to use it. Theres not much in the way of documentation.

Don’t do it

I spent roughly 8+ hours trying to get Music IO to work with Ableton Live and my iPhone 6 plus to no avail. I watched videos, I read the manual, I did a lot of stuff step-by-step as advised and I simply could not get Midi to flow from Ableton to my iPhone, and audio back to Ableton. That being said, I purchased StudioMux and had midi flowing from Ableton to my iPhone, and then returning audio back to Ableton and recording on a new track… all in less than five minutes… StudioMux just worked like a champ. What more is there to say?

Doesnt Work Well with Reason

I supported this app from the initial release based on their promises for future features and the reputations of the developers, all of whom I have good experiences with their other apps. It worked well on my Mac by setting it up as a composite interface using Soundflower. (Now that doesnt work anymore.) But just a few releases later they revealed that the future development will be oriented toward DAW software that is VST/AU compatible, leaving Reason users out in the cold. I emailed them questions about this at the time--a long time ago--but never received a response. I feel a bit grumpy about it it but, like I said, their other work is good, so I will have to get over it. Not everything an artist does is a hit.

Ignore bad reviews Music Io is great

I have been using this app with ableton since its release for audio / midi . It works better than my I connect midi 4+ which was $300. Most of the negative reviews I am reading here are from people who either sound like they didnt understand what this app does or are trying wonky nonstandard configs. If you are using ableton and know what you are doing you will not be disappointed.

Works perfectly

I am using this version of the plugin having upgrading from midi only version recently. Now I can send midi AND AUDIO to and from my iPad easy peasy. We even get FX loops! Cool.

Works wonderfully!

This is an ideal way to connect the iPad to Logic (and presumably elsewhere, Logics all Ive tried so far; its so sweet I cant drag myself away to experiment!), both for MIDI and audio from iPad apps (and back out, too). I had a little trouble at first getting audio recording to work, but got a swift reply from the developers that sorted everything out—Logic IS weird as we all know, but great once you know the workarounds. For me, MusicIO is an essential tool, the thing that finally makes ios music stuff real.

Does not work in Ableton 9 & Windows 7 64 bit

Description claims it works with most Windows DAWs. Ableton 9 64 bit would not load the 64 bit dll, nor would Samplitude (not surprised on that one, but used it for extra confirmation). Searched forums and found an old post suggesting users with same problem contact support. Went to contact page, and was presented a message that as of June 1, 2016, "we can no longer provide technical assistance to customers Windows environments," and that the developers "have been overwhelmed by the effort required to support them." Perhaps, you should update the description prior to taking our money?

Does not work for Windows7.

Though it does not work with Windows7 and they do not support the Windows version anymore, they still advertise it as a Mac, Pc app. and they advise you in the fine print that they dont support it. Obviously Im a P.C user and Im not knocking this app. It obviously works for Macs. be fare, dont market it as a Mac, Pc app. anymore, unless you are gonna support it.

Not bad for a start and works quite well!

This review will be brief, but must say that out the box of downloading this app I was already up and going within 5 minutes. It took a little bit assigning midi locations as well as fiddling around in Reason Midi setup but was already to go with no problems. Maybe a few Midi hiccups, but nothing that a good ole fashion update can’t take care of. As of 2/28/15 of this post I want to thank the 3 man band for coming together to give music app users an app that really does the trick and look forward to the Audio feature update. Until then reserving that one star

Great utility and support!

Just purchased this and have it working really well with Live 9 and Numerology sending to iPad, as well as using iPad Gestrument, etc, to send to them. Had a small confusion initially and their support responded VERY quickly, so highly recommended.

Superb Midi Connectivity! Long overdue

For years it has been painfully obvious that you should be able to connect an iPad or iPhone to your laptop, with the included 30-pin or Lightning cable, and have Midi pass between the two. Right? Well, these guys have finally done it and it works superbly right out of the box. Use this app on your device together with the free server app for your Mac (see their website or the Mac App Store), fire them both up and once you get the green “connected” signal, you’re good to go. On iOS I was able to use midiSequencer, Xynthesizr and Auxy all running sequencing together, and to play ChordPolyPad - all on separate midi channels into Logic to play 4 different software instruments. This on an iPad 2….for my first connection. And audio is coming in a future update! It really is that easy, and should have been all along. Right? These guys are great and responsive devs too, the makers of the elegant Midi Designer and Apollo-series apps, and the author of MidiBridge, MidiBus and the MidiBus software library. I’ve bought just about everything these guys make and it all works great, just like MusicIO. Highest recommendation.
